.. DISCOTools Protocols ========= The following protocols are available: TNC2 protocol ------------- This protocol establishes a serial port connection between the client (terminal) and a Terminal Network Controller (TNC) in terminal mode (`more `_). Terminal mode allows clients to communicate with the TNC using "English-like" command strings. Most TNCs is running in TNC mode when powered up the first time. KISS Protocol ------------- This protocol establishes a serial port connection between the client and a TNC in KISS mode (*keep-it-simple-stupid*). In KISS mode, the TNC turns into a simple modem device, which only concerns itself with transmitting and receiving raw `AX.25 `_ packets. The client (terminal) is responsible for implementing the AX.25 protocol. APRS-IS protocol ---------------- This transport protocol establishes a socket connection between the client and a `APRS-IS server `_ . `APRS-IS `_ is an Internet-based network which interconnects various APRS radio networks throughout the world (and space).
